It was painted using gouache, watercolor, colored pencil and ink.

This series of work is meant to inspire adventure, promote diversity-
and remember the precious moments of joy and peace
we've encountered while outside.

Each work, is inspired by trails I've walked myself- either on my own or with others. As mentioned in my introduction to this series, I seek to promote diversity in my work- reflecting those who are not often represented in outdoor spaces. My hope is for everyone to be able to see themselves in this collection.

'The View from Here' is based off a hike in Virginia called 'Old Rag'. This trail is one of the most popular and well known hikes along the Blue Ridge mountains. It's a pretty heavily trafficked loop trail that's about 9.5 miles.

This particular time I went with my husband and two friends. It was our second time on this trail and we felt more comfortable climbing the large boulders near the summit of the mountain. Our friends joined in and we all felt like kids playing- jumping from rock to rock and slowing down to strategically and carefully climb the larger boulders. We felt so small in comparison to the huge rocks, peaks, and overlooks.
